4 Days Tanzania Rocky and Road Adventure

Day 1: Dar es Salaam – Pangani (via Tanga)

Your journey begins with an early morning pickup from Dar es Salaam, followed by a scenic drive north toward the historic coastal town of Tanga. Upon arrival, you will enjoy a hot lunch at a local restaurant before continuing your exploration of the region. In the late afternoon, embark on a guided historical tour that introduces you to the rich heritage of Pangani, one of Tanzania’s most culturally significant coastal towns.

The walking tour of historic Pangani takes you through key landmarks that reflect the town’s past. You will visit the original slave depots and former slave market, the Freedom Grounds, old German colonial graves, an ancient mosque, and traditional Swahili houses. Throughout the tour, your guide will share insights into Pangani’s role in regional trade and its cultural development during the 15th and 16th centuries. As the evening approaches, you will drive to your lodge, where dinner will be served. Overnight stay at The Tides Lodge on a full-board basis.

Day 2: Pangani River Experience

After breakfast at the lodge, set out for a memorable three-hour cruise along the Pangani River. This relaxing river excursion offers excellent opportunities to observe diverse birdlife along the riverbanks, as well as sightings of hippos and crocodiles in their natural habitat. During the cruise, you will enjoy refreshing fresh coconut milk (madafu) while learning about local traditions.

The experience also includes a glimpse into the daily lives of traditional fishermen as they demonstrate how river prawns and crabs are caught using age-old methods. After the cruise, continue with a short drive through a lush coconut plantation before settling in to watch the sun set beautifully over the river. Return to the lodge in the evening for dinner and an overnight stay at The Tides Lodge, full board.

Day 3: Full Day in Pangani – Maziwe Island Snorkeling

Following breakfast at the lodge, prepare for a full day of marine adventure. Travel by boat to Maziwe Island, a protected marine reserve known for its pristine coral reefs and clear turquoise waters. Snorkeling around the island offers an incredible opportunity to explore underwater life, with sightings of colorful fish, starfish, and various other marine species that thrive in this untouched environment.

Spend the day enjoying the tranquility of the ocean and the natural beauty surrounding the island. After a fulfilling snorkeling experience, return to Pangani in the afternoon. The evening is spent at leisure, followed by dinner and overnight accommodation at The Tides Lodge, full board.

Day 4: Pangani – Dar es Salaam

After breakfast at the lodge, you will begin your return drive to Dar es Salaam. The journey takes you back through scenic coastal landscapes, arriving in the city in the late afternoon. Upon arrival, you will be dropped off at your hotel in Dar es Salaam or transferred to the airport in time for your onward flight home, marking the end of your coastal road adventure.
